Les Publications du Québec, together with the Société de développement de Montréal, salute the success of the book OLD MONTREAL: History through Heritage. The French edition (L'histoire du Vieux-Montréal à travers son patrimoine), now into its third printing, received the 2005 Zénith prize in the category "Publishing—Prestige Document." The prize is awarded by an association of senior Government of Québec communications managers.

This superb book offers over 300 pages of fascinating reading enhanced by 270 illustrations and photographs of Old Montréal, 130 never seen before from artist photographer Normand Rajotte. Each chapter of this urban heritage adventure covers a distinct historical period. Learn just how much the district's rich architecture and its archaeological remains, streets, squares, courtyards, piers, public artworks, as well as its heirlooms and antique documents, can tell us about its history and that of the people who have lived there over the years. The book also includes maps to allow a better comprehension of the evolution of the historic district from its inhabitation by native Indians up until today, and will help any interested reader in the planning of a visit.
OLD MONTREAL History through Heritage is a collaboration between specialists under the direction of architecture historians Gilles Lauzon and Madeleine Forget. It includes a preface by well-known historian Jean-Claude Robert and chapters by leading experts Joanne Burgess, Jacques Des Rochers, Gilles Lauzon, Jean-François Leclerc, Louise Pothier, Alain Roy, Alan M. Stewart and Roland Tremblay.
The project was made possible by funding under the Entente sur le développement culturel de Montréal – an agreement between the Government of Québec and the City of Montréal. The book, published by Les Publications du Québec, on sale for $34,95 in bookstores and Old Montréal museums, will be of interest to specialists, to anyone fascinated by heritage and history and to all those who simply love Montréal.
