In 1845, Montréal had 302 gas streetlamps.

In a discreet tribute to a long-ago style of lighting, 22 gas lamps watch over Sainte-Hélène Street day and night, shedding their soft glow on this lovely group of  19th-century buildings.

It's no surprise that this little street has become a popular backdrop for films...
