In recognition of its lighting design for Montréal City Hall, Éclairage public Inc. recently received the Méri-Thor prize for best lighting of a prestige building over the past decade. The award was presented at the 10th awards gala of the Illuminating Engineering Society, Montréal chapter, an event which also marked the centennial of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA). |

Architectural Lighting of the
Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel
Wins a Prestigious Award
Éclairage
public and the company’s lighting designer, Gilles
Arpin, architects Cardinal Hardy and
the Environment, Roads and Infrastructure Department
of the Ville de Montréal have won the award for
the best architectural and prestige lighting in Quebec, for the
exceptional way in which they showcased the Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours
Chapel in Old Montréal. The award was presented
by the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), an international
group of experts and firms specializing in the lighting of buildings
and public places.

The Old Montréal Lighting Plan has received a National
Honour award and a Regional Honour award (for Quebec), in the
"new directions" category, from the Canadian Society
of Landscape Architects.
These are
the highest awards granted by the Association; a jury of experts
chooses the winners from some forty candidates across Canada.
The lighting
plan was designed by Groupe Cardinal Hardy, in collaboration
with Éclairage public and Groupe Teknika.

A jury of
experts with the Quebec chapter of the IES (Illuminating Engineering
Society) has unanimously awarded the Prix Lumière 2001
to the lighting of Montréal
City Hall.

Inauguration of the Old Montréal Lighting Plan on October 2, 1996, by Montréal Mayor Pierre Bourque and André Boulerice, MNA, representing the Québec Government; the ceremony was also attended by the Mayor of Lyon and former French Prime Minister Raymond Barre, invited on the occasion of the Entretiens Jacques-Cartier, held in Montréal.
